General Statement of Duties:
This position is responsible for the preventive, regular, and urgent maintenance of all MRD indoor facilities. This is accomplished through the upkeep and preparation of indoor facilities for recreation programs and activities. This includes the Community Recreation Center (CRC), Field House (FH), and several ancillary facilities (concessions, restrooms and storage).
Supervision Received: Reports directly to the Parks and Maintenance Superintendent.
Supervision Exercised: Directly supervises the Maintenance Technicians, part-time seasonal staff, and community service workers.
Essential Duties: The following are examples of primary duties assigned to this position. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Supports the Parks and Maintenance Superintendent by monitoring and growing the computerized maintenance management system.
- Assists in the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of core, part-time and seasonal maintenance staff.
- Provides orientation and training to core, part-time, seasonal staff, and community service workers.
- Reports safety concerns and violations to the Parks and Maintenance Superintendent.
- Assists in picking up trash around the facilities, emptying trash receptacles, cleaning restrooms, and fixing or replacing damaged facility items.
- Removes winter snow and ice from sidewalks and parking lots at all facilities.
- Aides in leading the completion of the annual maintenance opening and closure projects and tasks.
- Provides for set-up and tear-down of all multi-purpose room usage for programs, meetings, rentals and special events including tables, chairs and any other room service needs.
- Ensures proper inventorying, ordering, storage and use practices of chemicals, building supplies, cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Coordinates with the City of Montrose for the maintenance and completion of shared service duties.
- Leads and assists in the coordination and completion of capital improvement and special projects.
- Provides preventative maintenance of all indoor facilities, programming equipment, and vehicles.
- Oversees the maintenance of motors, pumps, boilers, HVAC, dehumidification, pool chlorination, lighting systems, scoreboards, and district vehicles.
- Responsible for the mechanical and chemical maintenance of the aquatic centers.
- Performs the water chemistry monitoring and ensuring compliance according to Colorado State code.
- Ensures that the aquatic centers are adequately stocked with all pool chemicals and cleaning supplies.
- Performs preventative and repair maintenance on recreation equipment to ensure equipment is operational
- Properly maintains tennis and pickle ball courts by cleaning, washing, installing, and securing wind screens; filling cracks and surface repairs; and upkeep of nets, center straps, pedestrian gates, and lighting.
- Supports the success of recreational programs and activities at the CRC, FH, and ancillary facilities.
- Performs Spring start-up and Fall closure of the outdoor pool
Position Qualifications:
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years facilities maintenance experience required.
Education or Training: Equivalent to a High School Diploma or GED.
License and Certification: Possession or the ability to obtain a valid driver’s license. Possession or ability to obtain the Aquatic Facility Operator certification. Knowledge or the ability to obtain training for computerized maintenance management systems.
Work Environment: The majority of time is spent working in an indoor recreational facility setting with occasional outdoor recreational facility exposure. Will be required to work in all weather conditions and in close proximity to chemicals used in an aquatic and facilities environment. Occasionally exposure to wet or humid conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals with proper personal protective equipment.
Vehicle and Cellphone: MRD will furnish a work vehicle during work hours. MRD requires the employee to have a cell phone and will reimburse the employee a portion of the monthly service cost.
Work Hours: This position is required to perform on-call during services during weekends on a rotational basis. Work hours have seasonal variations with evening, weekend, and holiday hours.

- Ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps.
- Walk or stand for extended periods.
- Handle and work with various materials and chemicals.

Compensation: $40,116.00 - $60,173.00 per year
