Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator and/or Recreation Leader; officiates sports and events for leagues and tournament play. Responsible for site set up and take down, reporting timely and accurate records of the game, enforcing rules and regulations, and ensuring a safe environment for players, refs, and spectators. Officials and Scorekeepers must understand the basic rules of play for applicable sports they are working and must be able to make fair and unbiased judgement through play.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are examples of primary duties assigned to this position. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Calling games with honesty and integrity by maintaining accurate and timely tracking of points, fouls, and the time clock.
- Understands and enforces rules and regulations.
- Ensures sportsmanlike conduct and a safe environment for players, refs, and spectators. This may include diffusing intense situations with coaches, enforcing consequences of technical fouls and/or ejections.
- Maintains a professional demeanor at all times and makes an effort to establish a positive rapport with participants, spectators, and other fellow staff.
- Works as a team with other referees, Facility Supervisor, and Program Coordinator to carry out program goals.
- Attend required training.
- Provides basic 1st aid (if necessary)
- Communicates with the Facility Supervisors/Program Coordinator if there are any questions, problems, or issues that arise.
Position Qualifications:
- Must be at least 14 years of age.
- Experience playing or basic knowledge of various sports rules, preferred but not required.
- Training will be provided to those without experience.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and/or walk for up to 60 min at time, sit, talk, hear, read, and write. May periodically need to reach, stoop, crouch, or kneel. Employee may be asked to lift/carry and/or move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Sports Official wage: $16 - $32 per game (dependent on sport and game level).
- Scorekeeping wage: $13.65
- Free Membership to the Community Rec Center after 30 days of hire.
Compensación: $14.42 - $32.00 per hour
